Barcelona have been dealt a big blow ahead of their biggest game of the season following the news that young midfielder Pedri won’t be fit in time for the El Clasico this weekend. Barcelona host Real Madrid at the Nou Camp in the first of the two El Clasico meetings in the Spanish La Liga this season.

Spanish newspaper Marca revealed that Pedri won’t be in the Barcelona squad for the Real Madrid game due to the injury he sustained last month. Pedri has been a shining light for both club (Barcelona) and country (Spain). Spanish international Pedri is widely regarded as one of the best young players in the world. He was named the best young player at the Euro 2020 tournament this summer after helping Spain reach the last four stage of the tournament before they were beaten on penalties by eventual winners Italy after the two nations had played out a 1-1 draw at the end of both regulation time and extra time.

New Dutch national team manager Louis Van Gaal has won his first game in charge of the team after the emphatic win over Montenegro in a Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier at the weekend. Van Gaal was appointed the Dutch manager for the third time in his career this summer following the disappointing campaign at Euro 2020. Frank De Boer was sacked shortly after the Dutch were eliminated in the round of 16 by the Czech Republic with Van Gaal named as his replacement.

Ex-Manchester United, Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam boss Van Gaal didn’t have the best of starts after his team could only manage a 1-1 draw with hosts Norway last week Wednesday. Van Gaal’s team was much improved by the time Montenegro arrived in Amsterdam for their game.More Link

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has reportedly informed the English club that he wishes to leave the Etihad stadium in favor of a move to the Spanish La Liga, with the league’s giants Barcelona and Real Madrid said to he keen on snapping him up this summer. Laporte has had a mixed spell since leaving Athletic Bilbao to sign for City some years ago and has found it hard to cement a regular starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s team. Guardiola has had to rotate his defensive options and has switched between John Stones, Nathan Ake, Laporte, and now Ruben Dias after the Portugal international defender joined from Benfica last summer.

After the signing of Dias, the Portuguese central defender has walked straight into the starting eleven and has not looked back since. His fine performances earned him a starting spot in the Portugal national team at the Euros but he was unable to guide his country to win the title. His emergence as City’s best defender has cast doubts over the future of Laporte at the Etihad and there is now a growing belief that the former Bilbao man could be on his way out of Pep Guardiola’s team.

FC Barcelona are heading into this match bearing it at the back of their mind that it is one of the biggest games of their campaign. It is the second leg of their Copa del Rey clash with league rivals Sevilla and they will have to be in their best form if they want to overturn the already-standing 2-0 deficit after the first leg.

The game will be a repeat of last Saturday’s La Liga match which Barca won by the same 2-0 scoreline and they will be banking on their individual brilliance and team efforts to come out of this tie as qualifiers and into the next round. Although the game will be played at the Camp Nou, Barca boss Ronald Lowman has suggested that it does not have any major impact on the tie and that his side will have to be at their very best if they want to proceed to the next round of the tournament.
