Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona have announced that forward OusmaneDembele will undergo a knee surgery after he picked up a serious knee injury while playing for France at the ongoing European Championship being hosted by 11 countries. Barcelona have confirmed that the player will miss several months of football action as a result of the injury. To this effect, Dembele is not expected to return to action until the end of the year meaning that he will miss the start of the new season for his club.

Dembele has been the subject of transfer rumours as his future at the Nou Camp was far from certain with a year left on his current deal with the club. It was reported that the Catalans would be looking to cash in on him this summer if the player don’t sign a new deal. Barcelona would rather sell him for a fee than lose him for free when his contract is up next summer.

Barcelona might not be able to sell the French World Cup winner this summer due to the latest development involving the serious knee injury picked up in Budapest during the game which ended in a 1-1 draw. The Hungarians gave a good account of themselves despite being overwhelming underdogs. The French players were spared the embarrassment of losing to Hungary when Barcelona star Antoine Griezmannequalised for France in the second part of second half after they had trailed 1-0 at the break.

France manager Didier Deschamps brought on Dembele in the second half to try and win the game for his team but he didn’t do much to change the outcome of the game as the Hungarians were full value for the solitary point earned from the game.
