Barcelona are still interested in snapping up Manchester City’s teenage sensation Eric Garcia when the transfer window opens for business in January. According to Catalunya Radio’s Marta Carreras, the Spanish giants will capture and announce the defender from Premier League outfit Manchester City, but he won’t be heading to Spain until in the summer.
Garcia, 19, is a product of the famous Barcelona’s La Masia Academy and he decided to leave the youth setup back in 2017 as he went in search of more game time. He did get his chance last season though, having featured for the Etihad club 20 times in what was a breakthrough season for him.
His tremendous development at City saw a host of clubs register interest in him including the likes of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Ajax, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid. However, it seems the Camp Nou will be his destination as reports suggest he already has a pre-agreement with the Catalan club.
The Spaniard wants to see off his contract at City which is set to expire at the end of the current campaign after rejecting the chance to sign on fresh terms. He believes he has more chances to play at Barcelona who have aging defenders that need to be replaced than at City who have too many options in his position.
Barcelona already made their chase for the player a public affair as they were locked in negotiations with Manchester City but their refusal to meet the English club’s transfer demands meant that Garcia would have to see out his contract at City and sign for Barcelona for free in January instead.
Since turning down a new contract at the club, Garcia has been used by Guardiola on seven different occasions and he continued impressing his suitors. He will have free liberty to negotiate with other clubs from January and can still change his mind about moving to Barca.
