Ousmane Dembele has been at Barca since 2017. The ex-Dortmund man moved to the Bluagrana club in €105 million deal that also included over €40 million in add-ons if certain conditions were met. Consistent injuries to the player has made his time at Barca a disappointment, with just flashiest of his brilliance whenever he came on remnant of his time at the German club.

The relationship between Dembele, and the hierarchy at Barca has been damning in recent times, and the latest turn of event proves that there’s no way back for the player at Barcelona. The drama started when Barca’s coach Xavi Hernandez announced that the player had to sign an extension to his contract that expires in the summer or leaves.

Mateu Alemany added more fuel to the already burning situation by claiming that the player career at Barca is over with plans being effected to sell the player before the end of the winter transfer window. Dembele on his part announced on social media that he wasn’t going to be bullied by powers at Barca. The Professional Footballers Assocaition recently issued a warning to Barcelona that they would be breaking the law if they continue to pressurize the player.

The situation should have been handled different with Barcelona currently at a massive loss if this continues. Demebele’s camp have been looking for a contract extension since last summer albiet with an increase on current wages. Barca left this to tarry, and waited till Dembele had just six months left before deciding that they could not yield to the player’s demand.

Dembele would most likely leave Barca this month, but it is a huge disappiontment for the player who had the world at his feet when he swapped the Dortmund for the Spanish club. Five years on with multiple injuries, and a sad end to his Barca career. Ousmane Dembele is now damaged goods.
